Effective porosity

The term 'Effective porosity' as it applies to the area of the weather can be defined as ' In hydrologic terms, the ratio, usually expressed as a percentage, of the volume of water or other liquid which a given saturated volume of rock or soil will yield under any specified hydraulic condition, to the given volume of soil or rock'.

The term 'Effective porosity' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' The ratio of the volume of a soil or rock mass that can be drained by gravity to the total volume of the mass'.
